Pastor’s Corner
Pastor Tom’s Vision Statement: to ensure that every one of us knows we are loved, called, and empowered to discover our ministries to make a difference in this world.
I want to talk a little about discovery. I was attending a Bible study in Augsburg, Germany sometime in 1990 with an army chaplain who explained that sanctifying grace is an ongoing transformation of the heart. That’s when I had an AHA moment, “sanctification was saving my life!” I was reminded that getting saved was not just about getting into heaven when I die; it was about heaven getting into me while I live! Little did I know that this AHA moment was going to be the seed of my calling to be a United Methodist Pastor. I needed to share this good news with others.
Which brings us to our conversation about discovery. I often talk about my walk with God as the ‘Grand Adventure.’ We move forward as God leads. While we are walking, we constantly learn new things, pick up new skills, and discover what God has given us to do. When I discovered sanctifying grace, I also discovered my calling to go share it. But there are thousands of little discoveries as God leads us in the grand adventure.
What do we do? Have a conversation with God and step out in faith. That’s how we make discoveries. I believe that each of us has a ministry to do right now to make a difference in this world. Some days we might need to dig for it, other days it will come as a great AHA moment. Are you in discovery mode? Are you actively looking for (and discovering) ways God has called you to minister?
Blessings in Christ,
Pastor Tom
Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give,
not reluctantly or under compulsion,
for God loves a cheerful giver.
